This year, it is the 12th time that ’Produktprisen’ is awarded to a product with remarkable technological qualities. Behind the prize is the highly estimated Danish news magazine ‘Ingeniøren’ (the Engineer) which supports product development, deemed to be decisive in a globalised world with massive international competition.
Why SuperLock?
Being an innovative company, RPC Superfos contributes to this development, and so SuperLock for food products has been nominated for the Product Prize 2011. The groundbreaking novelty of SuperLock is the barrier protection which is possible on all surfaces. Combined with a membrane sealing it provides for extremely low oxygen transmission rates resulting in a very long shelf life.
“We are facing higher and higher demands for food product packaging in terms of shelf life. End users want fresh food products without additives and for this oxygen barrier plays a central role,” says Benny Nielsen, Executive VP and Technology Director, RPC Superfos, and continues:
“Our tests have shown that products like cabbage, beet roots and marmalade stay fresh in SuperLock for up to three times as long as in conventional packaging.”
About the Prize
The main criteria for the Product Prize 2011 are technological novelty and abilities. Further, the product must have been developed in Denmark or by Danes in countries outside Denmark and within a certain time span.
A total of 33 products are nominated in various subcategories and an independent, external and broadly composed jury will single out the winners of each one of them. These are then eligible for receiving the Product Prize of the year. The award ceremony takes place in the Danish Design Centre in Copenhagen.
Design matters
The location for the award ceremony is not a pure coincidence, as great design also is an important criteria for getting the prize. Benny Nielsen, Executive VP and Technology Director says:
”SuperLock not only fulfils the must-have main criteria about technological abilities, it also fulfils the criteria on the nice-to-have side. Some of the key words here are: user-friendly, responsible and important for the society as a whole.”
The jury announces it decision at the award ceremony on Thursday 13 October 2011.
