Probably for the first time ever, camel milk ice cream enters the global market. As of the beginning of 2015, consumers in the Middle East can buy Camelait ice cream; a premium series of six different flavours launched by Al Ain Dairy Company in the United Arab Emirates.
Besides the international classics – chocolate, caramel and vanilla - Camelait tempts the Emirati palate with four other flavours such as Dates ice cream with freshly chopped dates, Saffron ice cream with Saffron flower filaments blended with luxurious camel milk ice cream and cardamom flavoured ice cream with pieces of chocolate coated hazelnuts and ripples of rich, sweet coffee syrup.
The pack is a means of communication
Camel milk contains a triple amount of vitamin C compared to cow milk and is naturally low in fat and cholesterol. It contains unsaturated fatty acids, higher anti-microbial proteins, boosts the immune system and is ideal for people with allergies or lactose intolerance. Also, it has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Head of Plant Operations Sayyad Mohammed Ghouse from Al Ain Dairy Company explains that the Camelait ice cream is targeted at high-end customer because the cost of camel milk production is higher than that of cow milk. He says:
“For our new, exclusive product we needed a packaging that could clearly communicate its distinction including the various exciting taste experiences of the Camelait ice cream. The solution was found together with RPC Superfos Balkan. They now provide us with glossy and highly functional RingLock tubs.”
The artwork of the tubs consists of ample golden decorations and a perfect visualisation of the ice cream. Even the slightest detail is made visible; owing to the advanced in-mould labelling technique, photos and graphics are rendered in a very high resolution.
Spoon for immediate indulgence
The camel milk ice cream is available in two sizes: 125 ml and 1 litre. For immediate indulgence and eating on the go, the smaller tubs have a practical plastic spoon in the lid.
“Our new ice cream looks outstanding in the RingLock tubs sending a signal of superior quality. We are happy that we took the word of advice from RPC Superfos about putting a spoon in the lid, as it adds value to the product. We have cooperated well with their team on developing the design, including the colours to make the tubs attract the attention of the consumers,” Sayyad Mohammed Ghouse says, stressing that RPC Superfos was very dedicated to meeting all production and supply time lines.
On the filling line, the packaging solution also lives up to the requirements of Al Ain Dairy Company. The tubs are easy to handle all the way through the filling torque, the hardening tunnel and into the cartons. The RingLock tubs resist blast freezing at temperatures of -25°C. They are 100 per cent liquid tight and come with tamper evidence.
At the end of 2014, CamelaitPemium Camel Ice Cream won the SIAL Innovation Award in Abu Dhabi, shortlisted from 142 original entries.
