The Berry Closed Loop Recycled Paint Containers initiative has been shortlisted for the Plastics Recycling Awards 2023 in the category Plastic Packaging Product of the Year. The initiative has already won two other recycling awards, namely the Plastic Industry Award 2022 and the RECOUP Award 2022.
Søren Rohleder, CEO, Berry Superfos, says: ”We are delighted about being shortlisted for a Plastics Recycling Award and for all the attention that our Closed Loop Recycling initiative receives. It demonstrates the practical application of the circular economy and how partnerships between companies can make a huge difference. Berry Superfos remains dedicated to furthering our efforts in this direction every single day.”
A strong partnership for recycling
The closed loop solution involved the establishment of a circular partnership between Berry Superfos, Paint360, a paint recycling and recovery social enterprise organisation, and Berry Circular Polymers. Under the initiative, the three partners collaborate to collect waste paint, re-engineer it into new paint and recycle the used paint plastic containers into new paint cans for the recovered paint.
This enterprise to promote recycling reduces the overall impact of both the paint and its packaging through the reduction of waste product sent to landfill and the carbon emissions associated with incineration.
Winners to be announced in May
The Plastics Recycling Awards recognise design innovation with a minimum of 50% recycled content and design for recycling. All finalists will be showcased and the winners in seven categories announced at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe taking place at the RAI, Amsterdam 10-11 May 2023.
