One of the biggest supermarket distributors in Sweden has started to sell private label jam in SuperLock® pots from RPC Superfos. This modern solution with oxygen barrier protection replaces the previous jars and the change in packaging brings along a number of extra benefits.
According to the producer of the private label jam, Danica Foods, Sweden, one of the key results is the reduced weight of the new pack. Jörgen Lindberg, CEO of the company, explains:
9,000 kg less on the truck
“Roughly, in terms of packaging units, four incoming trucks with empty jars equal one single truck with empty SuperLock® pots. Outgoing trucks with SuperLock® filled with our jam weigh approximately 9,000 kg less than a truck with filled jars, which means logistical cost savings. Here, we use our energy resources for transporting goods - not chiefly heavy packaging.”
No more broken glass
Jörgen Lindberg also appreciates that the noise level on the production site has gone considerably down following the partly conversion from glass to plastic. The most essential advantage of the SuperLock® solution, however, is slivers of glass are history.
“SuperLock® is easy to handle and better than glass. When the jam is finished, the practical plastic pot is useful at home for storing other kinds of food and you can also put it in the microwave oven. But the biggest advantage for food producers is that the risk of broken glass is completely eliminated with Superlock®,” says Jörgen Lindberg underlining that safety plays a vital role in the food industry.
The conversion project in itself has also been satisfactory for Danica Foods.
“RPC Superfos has done a really good job. The communication between us was impeccable and the whole team was responsive to any of our requests,” Jörgen Lindberg happily concludes.
The private label jam is sold in two series: one contains no sugar at all; the other has low sugar content. Among the fruit varieties are lingonberry, apple, strawberry, apricot and raspberry.
