On the supermarket shelves thousand of products compete for the consumer’s attention. The family owned company Scandic Food responds to this by constantly developing their tempting products such as stewed fruits of strawberry, apple and cherry. Therefore SuperLock caught positive attention from Product Manager Claus Andersen at Scandic Food. He says:
“We wanted to bring something new to the German market and the plastic container SuperLock was a way to do it. Most of our competitors today use glass so the different look and feel you get by choosing plastic made sense to us.”
“It is excellent that the shelf life of SuperLock matches the one of glass and that we can use any part of the container for displaying our brand SVANSOE. The packaging allows us to send a signal of the high quality of our products that all offer great taste sensations.”
SuperLock has extremely low oxygen transmission rates. This is a result of a membrane seal combined with oxygen barriers on all surfaces. At the same time, the packaging withstands high temperatures so it is suitable for hot filling.
End-user advantages
Most consumers like to see what’s inside when they buy a product and with SuperLock it is possible to get a see through area known from glass packaging. At home, this is also an advantage as the end-user can see how much yummy stewed fruit is left in the pot – is it time to buy some more? The plastic material in itself also holds benefits for the consumer:
“For the end-user plastic is uncomplicated because after use, the container may go directly in the bin. In this way 10 out of 10 containers are left for incineration, while glass containers demand that the consumer leaves the jar for recycling in a special place,” explains Claus Andersen. He adds that Scandic Food today primarily uses glass packaging but hopes to get the chance to swap to SuperLock for an increasing number of food products.
Happy food producer
The weight of SuperLock is much lower than the weight of the containers which Scandic Food used before, and now more SVANSOE units can be transported per truck load which obviously reduces the fuel costs.
To ensure trouble-free filling of the new kind of packaging Scandic Food leases filling equipment of Superfos. The filling and sealing machine developed by Grunwald is highly appreciated by Scandic Food. SVANSOE fruit desserts in SuperLock packaging was launched in April on the German market.
“Getting ready for the launch has taken some time both for us and for Superfos. I would like to emphasise that in this process, we are very happy about the close contact we have had with Superfos. We received all the support and service that we requested,” states Product Manager Claus Andersen from Scandic Food.
