The first ice cream master in Estonia. Creator of happy memories. Or simply Uncle Eskimo. Mr. Evald Rooma has many nick names and is an extraordinary man dedicated to creating the best ice cream. He turns 101 years old this summer.
For many years he had the ambition to launch a banana ice cream to his fellow countrymen, however, there never was a right time to put it on the market. Now, the Estonian company Balbiino has liaised with him and sells vanilla ice cream and banana ice cream according to the old masters’ recipes. For this range, the packaging solution UniPak 5630 1,2L was selected. Also, a classic range in a 520ml UniPak pot is now in the display freezer.
Samples and quick replies
During the preparatory phase related to the right choice of packaging, Purchasing Manager Tiiu Loomägi from Balbiino appreciated the cooperation with RPC Superfos:
“It was a pleasure to receive quick replies to our various questions relating to packaging, and RPC Superfos promptly sent us all the samples we asked for,” she says.
Easy handling
The ice cream manufacturer is very pleased with these packaging solutions. According to Tiiu Loomägi, they have many advantages, one of them being user-friendliness obtained through the snap-on lid which ensures a perfect opening and re-closure. All UniPak pots come with tamper evidence as a standard feature.
At the production line UniPak shows strength and stability and withstands blast freezing.
“We fill the UniPak packaging with ice cream at a temperature of minus 4°. Then the ice cream passes through a freezing tunnel for about one hour where temperatures reach minus 40°. After this, the ice cream is stored in warehouses at minus 20 degrees and the UniPak packaging works well in all parts of the process,” Tiiu Loomägi from Balbiino explains.
Decorated with IML
The decoration of the pot is made with In-Mould Labelling and so the 1,2L UniPak packaging beautifully reflects the partnership with Mr. Rooma showing a photo of him and telling his story.
“It has been an honour to work with the centenarian Mr. Rooma in connection with this ice cream and we are happy to have helped him see his banana ice cream dream come true. And our customers love it already,” Tiiu Loomägi concludes.
