In Romania, a country with roughly 20 million inhabitants, TOPGEL is in top 3 producers of ice cream. For more than 25 years, ice cream desserts and sweet snacks from TOPGEL have reached an increasing number of customers having a sweet tooth.
Now, ice cream served with wafers pleases the eye as much as the plate, adding that crunchy, light and delicious sensation to the refreshing treat. With good reason, sweet, flavoured wafers from TOPGEL are popular and family size volumes sell well. Until recently, these were sold in standard printed carton boxes, which have now been replaced with square SuperCube® and round SuperHelio plastic buckets from Berry Superfos, a company of Berry Global.
Shape and size for efficiency
Olaru Viorel, General Manager of TOPGEL, is very pleased with the new packaging solutions. He explains:
"We appreciate the attractive, top-quality family size buckets from Berry Superfos; they look great and convey our brand image in the best possible way. Their space efficient shape means that we can be more flexible in our production planning and we also have advantages in respect of our logistics.”
The square plastic packaging solution is the SuperCube® pail in two sizes, 10.8 litres and 5.5 litres, with tamper evidence and an easy to open peel-off lid. TOPGEL has also opted for a round SuperHelio pail, 5.5 litres, ø224 mm, with tamper evidence and a special grid at the rim. During transportation of full pails, the grid ensures extra stability as it allows for increased friction between the pails.
Multiple reuse at home is a selling point
Both packs are decorated with In-Mould Labelling and come with comfortable plastic handles. The look, shape and size make the product stand out on shelf, while offering optimal protection of the delicate wafers. There is yet another advantage:
“The quality of the buckets makes them ideal for long-term reuse at home. We appreciate this and have made it a selling point in the promotion of our wafers. It presents an added value to the end user and contributes to sustainable consumption," Olaru Viorel points out.
The new packaging project for wafers enlarges the collaboration between TOPGEL and Berry Superfos, already supplying TOPGEL with plastic packaging solutions for a range of small ice cream desserts.
