Lactose free butter spreads in the United States

In response to the growing number of Americans who suffer from lactose intolerance Butterfields Butter LLC now launches a new lactose free butter product in a unique packaging from RPC Superfos. Both content and packaging are completely new on the US market.

Oval instead of round; strong and stable instead of bendy; no membrane sealing. These parameters were paramount when the US company Butterfields Butter LLC was looking for a new package for a new lactose free butter blend containing canola oil, which is spreadable directly from the fridge.

Lactose free butter is a new innovation to the American market and targets a growing number of people in the States who are lactose intolerant. It is estimated that as many as 50 million are affected.

Triggers curiosity
For the launch of the new product, James Douglas who is the owner of Butterfields Butter, wanted to find an outstanding package of premium quality with a prestigious look. His choice fell on the oval UniPak from RPC Superfos. He says:

“The packaging must trigger the curiosity of the customers in the supermarket and must be distinctive. In the United States, margarine is traditionally sold in round containers. As such, the oval shape for our lactose free spreadable butter is perfect, because it immediately signals that it is different from margarine. We wanted our packaging to say butter and not margarine.”

After extensive research in the packaging market it was clear that the UniPak solution from RPC Superfos USA was the most obvious choice. James Douglas is happy about the entire packaging project:

“Cooperating with our new packaging provider has been great. We have experienced a quick response time and an easy relationship with RPC Superfos USA. The small corporate structure means that it is hassle-free to get hold of senior executives.”

Value-adding qualities
James Douglas points out three major advantages regarding the packaging solution:

“The UniPak container is attractive because it offers integrated tamper evidence device, upscale In-Mould Labelling and strong body and lid. The tamper evidence means that there is no need for a membrane seal and this saves material costs and labour time.”

Currently, James Douglas and his team from Butterfields Butter are presenting the new spreadable butter product to supermarkets. The reactions are very positive:

“Everybody tells us that we have a beautiful container of great quality with a strong visual impact. This is exactly what we wanted to obtain with UniPak: Plenty of space for displaying our brand and for communicating the lactose free element combined with the picture of cows on the countryside signalling ‘butter’. The shape, the clear colours and the razor sharp photographic quality are fabulous.”
