Our history

Our history

The roots of Berry Superfos go more than 100 years back. In 1964, we moved into the packaging business and laid the foundation for our present position as European market leader within injection moulded and thermoformed plastic packaging.

Following an intense and comprehensive change process, Superfos has since the beginning of the new millennium been a lean, cost-effective and focused European supplier of injection moulded plastic packaging with big international corporations and brands as our primary customers.

1892

Superfos was founded in Denmark as a conglomerate with a broad range of activities and products.

1964

Packaging was added to the business portfolio.

1999

After extensive business divestments, Superfos became a focused injection moulded plastic packaging producer.

2006

Superfos receives Gold and Silver Stars in Starpack for the innovative built-in roller tray solution for paint packaging SuperCube® and Bronze Star for the FlakeFree® feature for SuperFlex preventing dry paint flakes from falling into the contents.

2008

This is a year of many awards: Two go to SuperSeal®, a packaging made solely of PP material, namely iF packaging award and Scanstar. The sustainable packaging concept Eco™ is granted the DuPont award and Paintainer® – metallic label solution receive the iF packaging award.

2009

Both SuperSeal® and a new generation of Paintainer® receive a WorldStar - Paintainer for improved end-user convenience and stacking facility as well as for optimised brand display.

2010

Invention of the co-injection production method which makes it possible to combine raw material virgin PP with recycled post consumer material while only the virgin PP is visible and in contact with the content of the container. At Salon Emballage the method is nominated by the Pack Experts Committee as a Coup de Coeur. The same year we introduced SuperLight®, our first thin wall packaging. And finally, after three years of research and numerous tests of products, raw materials and material combinations, Superfos also launches the award winning barrier protection solution SuperLock®. This solution is recognised with a CFIA Innovation award and a Silver Starpack award.

2011

Both the co-injection method and the new generation of Paintainer® receive an iF Packaging award - co-injection in the packaging materials category and Paintainer® in the display and transport packaging category.

The RPC Group acquires Superfos.

Development of a unique customised polypropylene oxygen barrier packaging for seafood LongLife™, which receives a Scanstar and at the end of the year a WorldStar 2013-2014. All packs are suitable for high temperatures, autoclaving and hot filling. The oxygen barrier solution ensures an almost non-existent oxygen transmission rate and ambient shelf life up to two or even three years. The oxygen barrier can become an integrated part of your preferred packaging shape, size and lid and the solution fits practically any type of food.
